Redmi 12 4G vs Redmi 12 5G: Everything You Need to Know
Redmi has redefined the landscape of smartphones with its budget-friendly releases from the beginning. Recently they have released their 12th model of the base series with two different connectivity — 4G and 5G. Although 5G is expanding rapidly, its coverage is still not as extensive as 4G. In some areas, you may not have access to 5G networks, and your phone will switch to 4G.

Both smartphones have the same specifications apart from the processor, rear camera and connectivity. The 5G connection although sounds very competent, does not produce a good speed anywhere apart from extremely urban developed areas, whereas the 4G network covers the whole of the nation pretty well.
The processor’s role is of utmost importance in determining the performance of a phone. The 4G phone has a Helio G88 chip while the 5G is powered by Snapdragon 4 Gen 2.
The MediaTek Helio G88 and the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 are both mid-range mobile chipsets, but the Helio G88 has a few advantages.
- CPU: The Helio G88 has a faster CPU, with a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz compared to the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2’s 1.8 GHz. This means that the Helio G88 will be better for tasks that require a lot of processing power, such as gaming and video editing.
- GPU: The Helio G88 also has a faster GPU, the Mali-G52 MC2, compared to the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2’s Adreno 610. This means that the Helio G88 will be better for graphics-intensive tasks, such as gaming and video playback.
- Image processing: The Helio G88 also has better image processing capabilities, with support for up to 108MP cameras. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 only supports up to 64MP cameras.
The MediaTek Helio G88 is a better choice for mid-range smartphones that need a powerful CPU and GPU.
Redmi 12 4G price is Rs 8,999 for the 4GB/128GB variant and Rs 10,499 for the 6GB/128GB variant. The Redmi 12 5G launch date in India is 3rd August, so we can not confirm the price yet, but in all probabilities, it would be around Rs 12,999.
Keeping in mind the imparity of connectivity all over India, I think Redmi 12 4G is a wiser choice. It gives you all the important features that you need without promising you an unreal speed of 5G, which you would not get anyway in India.
In today’s world, smartphones have become indispensable tools that revolutionize how we communicate, work, and access information. This is why I believe it’s important to make a wise investment in the right phone and avoid succumbing to seemingly enticing offers presented by manufacturing brands.
